The adventure begins with a 30-minute flight from Quito to Coca, followed by a short bus ride to the Napo River pier. From there, enjoy a three-hour motorized canoe trip along Ecuador’s largest Amazonian tributary.
During the journey, catch your first glimpses of the Amazon ecosystem: ancestral communities, local crops and fruits, towering Kaypok and giant fig trees, and islands at various stages of vegetative succession. Spot birds such as herons, egrets, and vultures, all while enjoying a packed lunch.
Next, take a short walk to Challwacocha Creek, where paddle canoes await for a trip through the flooded primary forest of black tea-colored waters, teeming with wildlife. Keep an eye out for black-mantled tamarins and squirrel monkeys on your way to the lodge. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed with cocktails and snacks, followed by an introductory briefing about the lodge and its facilities before settling into your cabin.
The guide will outline the activities for the afternoon, which may include a nature walk along nearby trails or a canoe ride.
