Peru - Classic Program - 6 Days

Peru boasts the most dramatic Andean peaks and finest regional cuisine, but the jewel in its crown is undoubtedly Machu Picchu, the legendary Inca ruins discovered high in the clouds and in the deep forest. Cuzco, the former Inca capital is filled with fascinating history, museums and ruins. If that wasn't enough, Peru's long, fertile territory was the starting point for many pre-Columbian civilizations. Other attractions include the Nazca Lines, the jungle city of Iquitos, the Mantaro and Ica valleys, beach towns, and the oasis village of Huacachina.

TOUR MACHU PICCHU (3 hours)Private services
Machu picchu was only re-discovered in 1911 by the explorer Hiram Bingham, this citadel is considered to be one of the most extraordinary examples of landscapes architecture in the world. Located in an enclave on the saddle of a mountain overlooking the deep canyon of the Urubamba River, in an area of lush tropical forest, it served as a place of worship, a site for star-gazing and a private hacienda of the family of the Inca Pachacutec. It consists of two main areas one agricultural, formed mainly by mountains and food stores, and the other urban, which is noted for its sacred zone with its temples, squares and royal tombs. The stairways and canals carved out of stone are recurrent throughout this remarkable archaeological site.
Machu Picchu was declared a Peruvian Historical Sanctuary in 1981 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983. In 2007, it was chosen as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

TOURIST BUS CUSCO - PUNO (10 hours)Shared services
You will leave Cusco early in order to visit some of the most wonderful destinations in Peru. Among those visits will be the Andahuaylillas "Sistine Chapel of America". This visit is situated at about 3122 meters above sea level. The church of San Pedro Apostol de Andahuaylillas is one of Cusco's best kept secrets and was originally built by the Jesuits in 1580. It was built from adobe and brick, with one nave, apse and bell tower. It is not a very large church, but it is full of incredible and inspirational religious art pieces like paintings, sculptures and carvings from the baroque style.
Another amazing visit is to the Raqch'i archeological site and the Temple of Wiracocha found within. The temple itself is about 25 meters wide and 92 meters long, and at least 15 meters high. Most of it is made of rock, the rest is adobe. The function of the temple was very unique, but mostly of religious origin. The God Wiracocha was one of the most important deities to the Inca, they knew this God as the creator of the world. So therefore, the temple was constructed to appease and honor him. It is said that this God had even made fire fall from the sky - most likely from the nearby Quimsa Chata Volcano - therefore they asked his forgiveness and built a shrine to honor and give offerings. What is left of the ruins show you just how grand and enormous the temple once was. It is an amazing insight to the Inca times. After this visit you will continue on to La Raya Pass.
La Raya Pass is an important border marker between the regions of Cusco and Puno. The natural area of the zone is known as Puna and the surrounding flora is mainly straw or Peruvian feather grass. This amazing landmark is also the highest point in between Cusco and Puno, at a high 4,338 meters absl. It can be cold and the remote area is mostly populated by locals, vicuñas and llamas. However, it is the one place where you can see the beautiful peaks surrounding the area in the Andes Mountain Range. You can also see striking rivers that flow towards Cusco, later falling into tributaries that lead to the Amazon River and others that flow into Lake Titicaca of Puno.
And finally, one of the last visits on your way to Puno is the Pukara Museum. Pukara was originally the first regional population closest to Lake Titicaca dating back to 500 BC. The museum is part of an archaeological site and features many galleries with stone sculptures, impressive pieces of pottery, and many other artifacts recovered from the site and neighboring areas. It is a priceless visit to gain valuable insights to Andean civilization of this area so many centuries ago. You will arrive at Puno in the afternoon.
