Millay Lodge

Millay Lodge is a real community project! Why? The project gives work of direct way to 44 people (22 men and 22 women), and indirectly provides the economic support of a Kichwa community of 150 people.
An important part of the project is dedicated to the indigenous cultural rescue, which Unlike other tourist options in the region. The program includes a visit to the Center of the Cultural Rescue Balata Yaku, whose job is to preserve the Amazonian indigenous culture in all its variants: gastronomy, music, hunting, fishing, legends among others.
In the same way, the project has a marked scientific profile; the objective of this branch is provide scientific data that helps the conservation of the Cuyabeno Reserve.
The contribution with the visit of the tourist collaborates with the different branches of the project in the welfare social community, indigenous cultural rescue, conservation and research.

 

Program of 4 days / 3 nights


Day 1:

Our bus will pick you up in the city of Lago Agrio at 9:00 (if you travel by plane we pick you up at the airport); At that time you will meet your guide. We will travel by bus a road (3h), stopping on the way to lunch.
In the Eastern Lands we will embark on our motorized canoes to descend the Aguarico River towards Peru, until we find the confluence of the Cuyabeno River. At that point we can see the pink and Amazonian dolphins It is a very good place because the Cuyabeno River, of black water, and the Aguarico, of white water, mix, creating an abundance of prey for the dolphins that use this place not only to feed themselves but as a breeding and breeding area. From here, in a pleasant canoe ride, we go up the Cuyabeno River watching monkeys, sloths, and birds, to arrive at around 4 in the afternoon to our beautiful lodge in the heart of the reserve. Time to relax, take a snack and a natural juice, and listen to the explanations of the guide to prepare for the first night excursion in which we will discover mysterious creatures of the jungle. After dinner the guide will give a brief introduction about the area and indicate the activities of the following day.

Day 2:

Before breakfast we like to take a short canoe ride. The animals are very active in the first moments of the day: monkeys, toucans, sloths, dolphins, giant otters ... every day is different, sometimes you can see incredible things !!! We return to breakfast and, after a short break, we will enter the forest. Our guide will share his knowledge with us, and not only about the use of the plants but also about the ecology and biology of the species of animals and plants that we find in the excursion. After lunch we will have free time until the afternoon activity. There are many
options for spending free time, such as lounging in the lounge, reading in the hammocks, paddling in our lagoon in front of the lodge, swimming in the river, contemplating the surrounding animals ...

At 4pm we did the afternoon activity. We will sail in the canoe through narrow rivers, approaching the shore, and look for monkeys, anacondas, and birds; Other inhabitants of the river are common in this excursion, such as paiche (Arapaima gigas, a fish that reaches 3 meters and weighs 250 kg). After the dinner and the explanations of the guide you can make another optional night excursion, for those who are more intrepid.

Day 3:

We get up early, and as every day we like to go in the canoe to look for early birds, in this case we will enter a narrow river to go out to a mouth with a salting, a place where parrots and parrots of different species come to eat clays rich in salts. We will make a stop in this magical place where we will observe a show of feathers, colors, sounds.
After breakfast we will visit another project of the community, the Balata Yacu Cultural Rescue Center; In this place we will have a complete cultural experience and we will learn incredible things about the way of life of the Amazonian cultures, their traditions, medicine, hunting, their utensils and weapons, crafts, and their crops, both medicinal plants and food. We will collect yucca and we will do all the steps to turn it into cassava (yucca bread), which we will taste accompanied by delicious Amazonian dishes.

After a swim on a sandy beach on the river we will go to the Observation Tower, located on the top of a Ceibo 35 meters high, to see sunset over the jungle, that moment in which many animals seek the place where they will spend the night, birds, monkeys ... but also where others wake up and prepare for a busy night. We will return to the Balata Yacu Cultural Rescue Center, to gather around a fire with our Kichwa friends, listen to traditional music, dance and tell stories. We will return to dinner at the lodge, paddling at night under the stars. Along the way we will see alligators, nocturnal birds, nocturnal monkeys, and maybe some boa.

Day 4:

As every morning, we will take a canoe ride, a last chance for some encounter with amazing fauna. After breakfast we will say goodbye to the jungle. Our canoe will take us to Tierras Orientales where we will have lunch, and our bus will pick us up to drop us off at the Lago Agrio Airport or at the Bus Terminal

After breakfast we will enter different paths, and accompanied by our native guide we will learn new things about animals, plants, trees ... We will return to the lodge to eat, and after free time where our visiting friends can perform various activities, we will do the activity in the afternoon: a rowing tour through narrow rivers, an exciting adventure in an extraordinarily beautiful part of the forest.


Day 5:

As every morning, we will take a canoe trip, a last chance for some encounter with amazing fauna. After breakfast we will say goodbye to the jungle. Our canoe will take us to Tierras Orientales where we will have lunch, and our bus will pick us up to drop us off at the Lago Agrio Airport or at the Bus Terminal.
